It actually was a pretty close race by no means did Obama get a “mandate”.

McCain lost because he was inept and Obama was so good at Doublespeak.  A little difference here and there and the results could have been reversed.

And so we will postulate that we inherited a President McCain and try to guess the result.

President McCain(PM) is a wishy washy left of center Republicrat.  So his administration immediately started to be so populated with an equally wishy washy staff.

The PM inauguration was pretty much the same ol’ feel good “dog an pony show” nothing new or original.  His Press Secretary announced that PM would have the traditional weekly Radio address, one scheduled Press Conference per month, the traditional addresses to Congress and one media interview per month with the outlet selected by drawing.  Other media appearances would be driven by significant events as appropriate.

A significant majority of Bush appointees were retained including many Cabinet members.

The pursuit of righting the economy was somewhat hampered by the Demercrat controlled House and Senate but PM managed to cobble together a gaggle of like minded “wishy washies” allowed some temporary reductions in capital gains, business and personal income taxes.  As part of the package every “real federal income taxpayer” was given a $1000 dollar taxable grant with that tax to be on their 2011 tax return.

The trade off was with implicit guarantees of support for “global warming” taxes after the economy had recovered.

The Demercrat controlled House and Senate cobbled together a “Stimulus Bill” that did little to stimulate the economy.  PM vetoed it as a wasteful boondoggle and it died.

That issue being addressed, PM then essentially maintained the “Bush Doctrine” for international relations and objectives.

As GM and Chrysler struggled under the oppressive Union contracts they had signed on to, PM denied a federal bailout.  Both entities went into bankruptcy, they gained some concessions from the Unions for giving them 25% ownership and started toward a painful recovery.

PM suggested that the pending economic catastrophes with Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security needed to be addressed by three independent committees with the members divided equally from academic experts, business, congress and subscribers.  Those members chosen by lottery from applicants.  The reports were due by September 2009.

The immigration and “illegal residents” issue was resurrected with PM favoring some sort of regimented amnesty and legislated assimilation methodology. PM tasked Congress to submit considerations and suggestions by March 2010.

The Israel/Iran/Palestine confrontations in the Middle East became real pressing problems.  The PM administration demanded reality and announced that Israel had every right to defend itself.  Israel was openly advised that the USA would support them only as long as they refrained from irrational expansion.

As the Iraq experiment wound down the PM administration was faced with the Afghan exercise.  Some considerable angst resulted in a policy adjustment there.  It was decided the Afghan “government” would be protected and supported but military adventures would be the responsibility of the Afghan government.  Extraordinary efforts specifically directed at Taliban and associated Islamic Radicals would be at the discretion of the NATO and US Military establishment.  Political Correct “rules of engagement” were summarily rescinded.

On the domestic front PM directed the Federal law enforcement machinery to aggressively pursue terrorism domestic and external. ALF and ELF whackos were very shortly incarcerated and the operations exterminated. Multiple Mosques and Islamic “schools” were searched under appropriate warrants and some several found to be advocating, promoting and teaching violence against the average American.  Those so determined were shut down and the appropriate individuals were persecuted.  Institutions found innocent were publicly exonerated and offered as examples of adaptive Islam. 

An independent review of the EPA, Department Of Education and Department Of Energy was initiated. Members directly or indirectly connected to the targets were excluded from the effort.  In August 2010 the EPA was purged for political prejudice, the Department Of Education was reorganized to expunge obvious political bias and perversion and the Department Of Energy was summarily canceled as being a useless front.

PM pretty much kept to his promise regards public appearances.  When Israel exterminated the Iranian machine in some 40 minutes he had a brief press conference calling for International restraint. 

The above was an interesting adventure into “What If”.  I obviously have injected my concepts, opinions and thoughts.

The “What If” PM era would have been very much different from the current reality.

Personally if PM had become a frankly stumbling reality, I feel we would be much better of than we are now.
